On Thursday 8th March, 39 people from across the UK took part in a static cycle challenge to raise money for Camfed.

Camfed are a charity who support young girls to gain an excellent education and go on to succeed and be future leaders of change. Their programmes begin with an individual girl in rural Africa. They look at the world from her perspective and work with communities to dismantle the barriers to her education and to a life of independence and leadership.

The charity has a particular focus in Malawi and Tanzania so we decided to cycle from Mzuzu in Malawi to Tunduru in Tanzania totalling 243 miles. After 9 hours of dedicated cycling and enthusiasm from our people, we in fact smashed our target and cycled 523 milesinstead! 

We promoted our fundraising event both internally and externally with our aim to raise £400 (this would send 2 girls to school for a year). To our utter astonishment, we smashed that target as well and raised an incredible £1,134. This means we can send 5 girls to school for a year plus pay for their uniforms. This is a wonderful achievement and it was a hugely successful, inclusive event. 

I want to thank everyone who was involved in the day and to those who contributed to giving 5 young girls the best start in life and empowering them to succeed in the future.
