With the sun shining, the heat rising and days getting longer, everybody’s moods are lifted.
The world is automatically seen as a brighter, happier and greater place.
Sunny weekends are now spent at BBQ’s with friends, or just generally relaxing, which in turn is going to have a positive impact on employees' during the week, with something to look forward to. Even more so, if you make the most of the sun and fresh air during a lunch break.
Here are the main reasons why:
Sunshine increases levels of serotonin, a happy hormone, therefore we will feel happier when the sun is out, even if we just sit in the sun for 10 minutes in the afternoon. Therefore when the sun is shining, make sure you get yourself and your colleagues outside during your lunch break and make the most of this weather.
Feeling happier and positive will increase your motivation and performance at work! MMK recently held a webinar which was on "stressing no more" - getting out in the sun for a relaxing lunchtime is a big contributor of this. We also have a committee which recognises employees needs, organising summer parties and giving employees increased motivation during work hours.
You don’t need as much sleep during the summer; however you will find that despite this, you will feel more energised, as you have lower levels of melatonin in your body. Feeling livelier at work can rejuvenate creativity, ideas and passion for your job.
A run along the river or around the park sounds so much more appealing when the sun is shining compared to the dark, wet days which we have had too much of recently. Morgan McKinley is keen on promoting the idea of taking an hour’s lunch break to exercise. Whether this is a walk, a jog or a quick cycle ride, any type of exercise which is done outside will increase endorphins, giving a much more positive outlook during the afternoon at work.
We offer a weekly Tuesday run with the Morgan McKinley Run Club, designed for all levels. It's a great way to mingle with colleagues across the company, as well as get that little bit healthier.
So make sure you get up and really the outdoors. You'll feel the benefit instantly and it will lead to you feeling happier in the workplace.
