As I made my way to work this morning in the drizzle, wrapped up in my new winter coat I passed a few less fortunate individuals who were huddled in a doorway with only a sleeping bag protecting them from the cold and rain.
Originally being from the UK, I find Sydney winters not too harsh however I think my opinion would change if I was ‘sleeping rough’ on a park bench or in a building doorway.
At Morgan McKinley we do provide on-going support to a charity called Odyssey House however I thought to myself, is this enough??
I started to enquire what else I could do or what Morgan McKinley as an organisation could do to give something back and help out the homeless, especially during this winter time.
When speaking to a good client of ours they mentioned that they were collecting items for The Movement. After doing some research I realised that this was a not for profit organisation that provides much needed support to Sydney’s homeless and families going through financial hardship.
One of the things this great organisation does is to provide hot home cooked meals for the homeless from a portable set up dining area in various locations across Sydney.
By taking about 20 minutes out of my day, I managed to organise a collection in our office, which resulted in us being able to contribute a shopping trolley full of goods that will be cooked or distributed to these struggling families/individuals.
If you too feel like you should be doing more to help people less fortunate than yourself then I am sure that any contributions would be welcome, you can check out their website at www.themovementcrew.org or Facebook page ‘The Movement Sydney’ to see what you can do!
