I don’t know about you but usually at this time of the year, when we are still in the depths of the winter with the previous summer a distant memory and the mornings still dark and dreary, I yearn for the long summer nights and the feel of the sun on my skin.
Just today, I quickly perked up at my desk when I realized it was still bright outside at 4.30pm. This natural light of the sun is extremely beneficial for our wellbeing, and at this time of year we should really start to see a difference in our mood and emotions.
It may be a very simple difference, like a spring in your step or a smile on your face, but as the saying goes ‘it’s the little things that count’.
Daylight also has a significant impact on productivity and health. With natural light our eyes and brains simply function more optimally, which leads to being able to concentrate more and maintain focus better. Which also enhances our productivity and performance during work.
Therefore at this time of year, as the days begin to get longer, I urge you to take in as much sunlight as you can – enjoy the fact that it is bright outside when leaving work, take an extra-long walk and appreciate that soon enough the depths of the winter will be the distant memory.
Now let’s just hope for a dry and sunny summer!
