Why work for Morgan McKinley Japan?

Working in recruitment in Japan offers a rare opportunity to experience something completely different to the recruitment markets in the UK or Ireland.

Its very relationship-driven: the most successful recruiters in Tokyo go above and beyond for their clients and candidates, and are committed to building and developing these relationships.

With over 10 years in the Tokyo recruitment industry, Morgan McKinley have a fantastic reputation within the local market across Financial Services and Commerce & Industry (winning the Best Banking and Financial Services Recruiter in the Recruitment International Awards in Tokyo last year). Morgan McKinley prides itself on service delivery to both clients and candidates. Despite being a global firm, there is a boutique feel. You work on first name terms with the global CEO and COOs, and there is a personal attention to relationships with clients and candidates.

The Tokyo office culture is a balance of working in a team as well as valuing the individual. Consultants are seen as entrepreneurs and are encouraged to build their own portfolios of clients and candidates within their chosen market sector, as well as cross-selling other teams where possible. Essentially, you get the chance to run your own business under the Morgan McKinley brand, within a mature and professional environment. We enjoy a great work-life balance and socialise out of the office; we have a five-a-side football team, are involved with the Financial Industry in Tokyo (FIT) Charity Run every year and have quarter end BBqs on the building roof top.

We value service delivery and being able to add value to our clients and candidates. There are structures and processes in place, but it is not “all about the KPIs”.

Do you think outside the box? Do you enjoy being creative? Ideas and changes are welcomed at Morgan McKinley. Embracing Change is one of the 4 core values that are at the heart of everything we do.

We are looking for experienced recruiters who are prepared to step out of their comfort zone and genuinely prepared to take on a challenge: people with real drive, motivation and passion, who want to develop their careers in a supportive, dynamic environment, and help drive our business forward.

So why chose Japan? Think of tradition and innovation living together

Japan has a population of 127 million people, and greater Tokyo has around 37.8 million residents, making it the largest city in the world. The city hosts 51 of the Fortune Global 500 companies, the highest number in any city in the world. It is the most established market in Asia and the 3rd largest economy in the world. And don’t forget, Tokyo will be hosting the Olympic Games in 2020!

It’s a surprising blend of the traditional and cutting-edge, where punctuality, diligence, and pride in one’s work and enthusiasm are highly regarded personal traits. Japanese people are friendly, polite and have an extraordinarily high standard of service. It is also undoubtedly one of the safest cities/countries in the world, where crime is almost nonexistent.

If that wasn't enough, Tokyo is also close to the mountains (Hakuba, Niigata) for skiing in the winter & beaches for the summer (Zushi, Enoshima).  If you go a bit further, world class snow powder can be found in Hokkaido which rivals the ski resorts in Europe and North America.  Great beaches, amazing diving spots and the home of Karate can be found in Okinawa.  You can also get good travel deals to Korea, Guam, Hong Kong and China for a long weekend.

But I don't speak Japanese...

Don't worry, you can work in recruitment in Tokyo and not speak Japanese. It definitely helps and we would encourage you to take an interest in learning the language as it will help you feel more comfortable living in Tokyo, but it is not essential. We have a number of staff members who are basic Japanese speakers.
