UK COO David Leithead Pledged to complete the Great Kindrochit Quadrathlon & fundraised over £1,000 for MMK Million
When I submitted my Board Pledged to complete the Great Kindrochit Quadrathlon it all seemed a long way off and plenty time to get the training in, but time flies when you're having fun and lo and behold, the date with destiny arrived rather suddenly...
The event involved swimming across Loch Tay, then walking/running 27km over 7 munroes (Scottish for mountain taller than 3,000 feet), then kayaking 8 miles down the loch, then cycling 60km round it.
This challenge has to be done in pairs, but unfortunately about 6 weeks ago my partner pulled out! I thought that was my pledge ruined, when Richard Eggleston agreed to stand in, so massive kudos and thanks to him for that!
After a 9 hours drive up to the Highlands on Friday, we registered, had our kit checked, then dashed to the pub for fish and chips and shiraz (Scottish for very important last minute carbs). Then a very short sleep later, we were gathered at 6:30am Saturday, along with 230 other lunatics in wetsuits and silly orange swim hats, ready to plunge into the icy cold waters of the Loch.
We finished 11 and half hours later... We were just in the top 50 of the 200 people that finished, so a creditable result I think!
The beers at the end went down very well! Many thanks to everyone who sponsored us - we've fundraised over £1,000 for MMK Million.
